Todays lesson is all about an introduction to what we will learn about Pompeii and Herculaneum
in your groups you need to find out
- The stages of Occupation within pompeii and Herculaneum
- The geographical context of pompeii and Herculaneum - this includes the geography, natural features and the resources found in and around both areas
- a general idea of the streetscape of the areas
All this information is to be compiled into a 5 minute power point presentation which one student will present to the class.
LESSON 2 TASK
You have just read a brief overview of what daily life was like in Pompeii prior to the erruption of Vesuvius.
In pairs, read pages 25 - 30 about daily life in Pompeii and write dot points as you go along. You should have dot points for each of the following sub-headings:
Leisure activities, food and dining, clothing, health, baths, water supply and sanitation.
Once you and your partner Have done this go through your dot points together and pick out the three from each sub-heading that you think are the most important. Once this is done, each pair will be required to stand in front of the class and state their three most important points and why you think they are the most important. If another pair has points that you have not got, please write them down.
LESSON 3 TASK
The following task will be due in week 10 in class.
You are to individually write a report on the six stages of the Mount Vesuvius eruption. The stages should be written in the order they occurred. Within your report also include the five stages of death that occurred.
For each stage include:
- When the stage ooccurred?
- What happened when this stage ooccurred?
- How did the people react during this stage?
This report should be within 1000 - 1500 words in length.
Please include a bibliography.
This will be worth 10% of the possible 30% for the Pompeii and Herculanium topic.
